Follow your gut...……

The past couple of years have been a rollercoaster. The pandemic slowed my world down, and my business took a hit. But in those challenging times, I found solace and inspiration in two new hobbies: marketing and podcasting. I spent hours diving into the stories of giants like Nike, Apple, and Warby Parker, trying to unravel the secrets of their success. I wanted to understand the how's, the when's, but most importantly, the why's.

And then, I got lost in the world of "why." That's when I stumbled upon "Start with Why" by Simon Sinek, a book that completely transformed how I approached my business.

You see, I used to think that as a photographer, I had to be an expert in every type of photography. I thought I had to be a jack-of-all-trades. But I realized I'm not just a run-of-the-mill photographer; I'm someone who loves telling genuine stories. I capture legacies and memories.

Bowie once said, “Never play to the gallery, never work for other people at what you do, always remember that the reason that you initially started working was that there was something inside yourself that you felt that if you could manifest it in some way you would understand more about yourself and how you coexist with the rest of society.

I think it’s terribly dangerous for an artist to fulfill other peoples expectations, I think they generally produce their worst work when they do that.

The other thing I would say, if you feel safe in the area that you’re working in you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in, go a little bit out of your depth and when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting.”

I believe that being authentic and real, no matter who you are or what you do, leads to happiness in both life and business. It's about staying true to yourself, which resonates with your ideal clients. I've carried this approach into my work with families for a while, and in the past two years, I've ventured into offering content creation packages for brands and businesses.
